The butterfly stools are two curved shaped fiberboards, which are connected in an opposite and symmetrical manner through an axis. The connection is fixed under the seat with screws and copper rods. The shape is very much like a butterfly is flapping a pair of wings, hence the name Butterfly Stool. In 1957, the butterfly stool won the famous "Compaso d 'Oro", and it was also the first time for Japanese industrial product design to emerge in the international design world. Influenced greatly by Le Corbusier, Sori Yanagi became the leader of the Japan Mingei Movement. He alleged that modern craft design should integrate humanity and culture. His works express the beauty of nature, common and accordance.
