Design Lecture - Baigou

On November 17th, under the guidance of Industry and Information Technology Department of Heibei Province, the 22nd Design Lecture& the 46th "Design × Manufacturing" industry matchmaking conference was held at Baigou New Town Museum, which was hosted by Baigou New Town Management Committee, organized by Hebei Industrial Design Innovation Center, and endorsed by Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association.

More than 150 people attended the meeting. The main attendees were: Yang Jianjun who is the Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Baigou New City and the Director of the Management Committee, Zhang Tiezhu who is the Member of the Party Committee of Baigou New City and the Deputy Director of the Management Committee, Jin Xuefei who is the Director of the Social Business Division of the Baigou New City Economic Development Bureau, Wang Mingli who is the Principal Staff Member of the Bureau of Economic Development of Baigou New City, Shirley Feng who is the Director of Hebei Industrial Design Innovation Center, Yan Shi who is the Operation director of Hebei Industrial Design Innovation Center, Chen Jie who is the director of the Development Department of the Hebei Industrial Design Innovation Center, and design agency guests, enterprise representatives of Baigou New City .

The event was hosted by Chen Jie, Director of the Development Department of Hebei Industrial Design Innovation Center. At the meeting, Zhang Tiezhu, member of the Party Committee of Baigou New Town and deputy director of the Management Committee, delivered a speech.

Baigou New City, located in the northern part of Baoding and adjacent to Xiong'an New District, is the historical metropolis of Yannan. It is the “China's luggage capital” and “China's major commercial and trade town” in the new era. It is an important business hub connecting Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. Under the trend of structural reform on the supply side, the impetus of the “Made in China 2025” policy, and the great opportunity of the establishment of the new airport in Beijing in Xiong’an New District, Hebei Baigou has ushered in new opportunities for development.

Industrial design is the leading link in the manufacturing industry and an important guide for industrial transformation and upgrading. Located at the source of the value chain and at the forefront of the innovation chain, it plays an indispensable role in optimizing the economic structure, enhancing development momentum and enhancing industrial competitiveness. The Baigou government attaches great importance to the development of industrial design, and has allocated 50 million yuan of special funds to encourage enterprises to develop industrial design, make full use of existing design innovation resources, accelerate the construction of innovation subjects, carriers and platforms, and innovate innovative factors such as Baigou services, talents, and technology finance. With industrial design as the starting point,the government helps Baigou transform from “Made in Baigou” to “Created by Baigou”, realize the linkage of regional brands and characteristics, open up the road of industrial industry innovation, accelerate the deep integration of industrial design and luggage industry, and strive to create independent brands.

Information about Baigou Luggage

Up to now, there are 4136 production enterprises, 172 supporting enterprises, and 7412 related tertiary industry enterprises, employing more than 70000 people, with an annual output of 800 million bags and more than 1500 self-owned brand bags, including 32 “famous trademarks of Hebei Province”, 19 “Hebei Famous Brands”, 11 “Quality Products of Hebei Province” and 45 enterprises passing the international quality management system certification. There is a huge design space for industrial design and brand creation.

Luggage is the leading industry of Baigou New City. With more than 30 years of development from weak to strong, it has radiated 6 counties(cities), 55 townships and more than 500 natural villages. More than 100 categories and millions of designs and varieties are produced, including student bags, trolley cases, leisure bags, camera bags, computer bags, gift bags and various packaging bags, which are sold to large, medium and small cities in various provinces and cities across the country and exported to more than 190 countries and regions such as Russia, Yugoslavia, France, Australia, South Africa.

The main theme of the current design lecture is “Design enables Industry upgrading.” Five guests share the value of design and the importance of promoting industrial development, they are:Shirley Feng, Director of Hebei Industrial Design Innovation Center, Feng Xiao, co-founder of RITO, Luo Huan, Chairman of Shenzhen Sban Design Co., Ltd., Riccardo Dal Maso, head of Hebei Creative Capital Co., Ltd., and Xie Fuping, inDare Design Huizhou Branch General Manager. With a wealth of vivid cases on the two-way relationship between design and brand, business, promotion, efficiency, they share the design benefits for the relevant department staff and representatives of local enterprises.

Feng Xiao, a veteran who has been deeply involved in brand integration marketing for 18 years, introduced the overall solution of the brand creative system with his mature thinking. He said that the design should be based on the six dimensions of touch, vision, smell, taste, hearing and feeling at the customer contact level, and then comprehensively consider the product materials, processes, experience, etc. to provide customers with satisfactory creative solutions.

Combining the current era context and macro momentum, aiming at the industrial status quo of Hebei province, industrial design is used to carry out industrial transformation and upgrading,as well as implement characteristic industrial town.

Qinghe, focusing on the cashmere industry chain for 40 years, is committed to building the world’s cashmere capital. By introducing industrial design, it will drive industrial transformation and upgrading, empower upstream and downstream enterprises, and enhance the added value of products and brands. Taking Qinghe Cashmere Town as a case, it carefully analyzes the brand system planning ideas and defines the brand to establish a vision, thus building the world’s cashmere capital, becoming the world cashmere fashion industry center. It also carries out industrial structure upgrading and characteristic town planning and implements integrated strategy of “production, learning, research, exhibition, business and travel”, making design provide the core driving force for upgrading, integrating design potential energy and enhancing industrial innovation capability. On September 20, Cashmere Town Mascot was released and the first shot of the cashmere town brand was launched.

Discuss  how to upgrade industry of Baigou

In the afternoon, the 46th “Design × Manufacturing” industry matchmaking meeting was held in the reception room of Baigou Museum. Wang Mingli, director of the Bureau of Economic Development of Baigou New City, and Ma Junchao, director of the Bureau of Economic and Trade Affairs of Baigou New City, attended the design of Hebei Industrial Design. Yan Shi, director of the operation of the Innovation Center, presided over the meeting.

Tianshangxing Luggage Leather Co., Ltd., Hedao International Bags Trading Center, Guangshun bags and other 40 manufacturing representatives spoke at the venue to explain the current development of the company. Representatives of the company expressed their desire for product design and brand upgrade in the face of market saturation and market competitiveness.

Hebei Industrial Design Lecture·Baigou Station was held to stimulate design and innovative thinking, achieve zero-distance dialogue between industry and design. We hope that this sharing train can help enterprises gain their understanding of “industrial design” and recognize the driving role of design, using the power and thinking of industrial design to optimize products, upgrade package, build brand and improve the efficiency, thus to promote the transformation and upgrading of Baigou industry and building the world brand of China’s luggage city.
